Favorite Family Foto Friday

Favorite Family Foto Friday is hosted by Deborah over at Pictures, Pots, Pens . Please drop by her place and enjoy her posting, as well as find links to others who are participating.

Today is my first time to participate in this event. I love history and genealogy and family photos, mine or those that belong to others. I am so excited about being included! So, here's my first submission:

This was taken on August 4, 1974. It is a picture of me and Terry. I was all of 16 at the time and so absolutely in love with this man! Momma took this picture in their yard on this Saturday afternoon. We were out doing a family barbecue and Momma wanted to take a picture.

The quality of the picture isn't great, but I love it. Terry had just gotten a hair cut because that was always a bone of contention between my parents and him. He didn't want to take the time to go the barber shop or beauty shop, so he just let his Mom cut it at home. She honestly put a bowl over his head and cut his hair! He was so upset and NEVER let that happen again!

I have always been a very fair-skinned person. Sun only burns me so I've tried not to overexpose myself since I was a teen. You can see that I'm so white here the sun glares off my skin! Can you believe I thought I was fat then?! I look at myself then and now and I think "What was I thinkin?!"

Those were such wonderful times. We were young and in love and thought we had the world by the tail! We were already engaged at the time this picture was taken. Momma was none to happy about it, but she did not try to stop us.

Everyone told us we were too young, that it was just puppy love or infatuation, that it would never last. Well, I guess they were wrong! We married on June 14, 1975 and were still very happily married on the morning the Lord called him home on January 26 of this year. From the time we started dating until the day Terry went home was almost 36 years. I'd say it was real!

Thank you for stopping by to visit me today and sharing my memory. Be sure to go by Deborah's place and find more Favorite Family Fotos to view!

That is such a cute picture!!! I love it! Some of my favorite pictures are the ones of me and hubby at age 16... what did we know about love? And yet, here we are.

I love Genealogy too... we may have to swap notes some time!

Diane, welcome to FFF, thanks for stopping by my blog and the sweet comments. Isn't young love also married my high school bo. We were 17 when we married in 1961, we couldn't stand the thought of me having to move with my parents to TX from MS and we'd never be together (we thought)again. Everyone said it wouldn't last, that will be 48 yrs ago this Aug and we're still going strong. What do they am so glad you got to spend your life with your love. I really like the picture.
Coming back and visit more often.

Welcome, and thanks for sharing the photos and story! Imagine - actually using a bowl to cut hair - we would all joke about it, but never thought anyone would do it!

I think that photo is so beautiful and the love just radiates (sp?) from it. It's one more glimps into the great love you shared.
I too married my high school sweetheart 43 years ago. I think high school was a different place back then, romances were a lasting thing, not as they seem today. There is good to be said of the "good ol' days"!

You both look adorable together! My dad said the same thing to me when I got married, "it wouldn't last 6 months". Been married 42 years to the most wonderful guy! Have a great day!!

Welcome to Friday's Favorite Family Fotos! The photo of you and your love is precious! You both had love written all over your face. I am sad at your loss. 36 years is a long time, but it flies when you're in love, doesn't it? Thanks for sharing this photo and story.

What a sweet love story. Y'all look so cute in this picture. My mama said that I shouldn't marry Phillip because he played baseball and probably "has a girl in every port." We've been happily married 23 years and my mama loves him.

I met my husband when I was 18 and his mom just knew we were to young to get serious.
We will be having our 20th anniversary in June, so I think we were. : )
What a special tribute to your husband. I laughed about the bowl haircut.

What a beautiful photo and post! I'm new on your blog place, I'm here upon the invitation of my blogger friend, Terry. Mrs. Mac and Donna are my blog friends too...

What a great life you shared with Terry.

May the beautiful memories continue to keep you warm in the days ahead! We travel on somewhat similar paths in this season, Diane. Our comfort lies in knowing that God holds our lives in His hands.
